Course Overview

This workshop is for everyone who appreciates art and eventually surfs CGTalk for that reason, but feels they're too much of a beginner to enter the other workshops. Maybe you have a secret desire to study and learn digital art, but you haven't been able to find a suitable beginner class before.

In the Absolute Beginners workshop we learn how to handle Photoshop and a Wacom tablet. The workshop is sensibly built around making you learn the software and handle the tablet alongside your first approaches in digital painting.

The foundations are taught by studies so that the only thing you have to worry about at first is how to get used to the tablet and software.

We will also learn how to break down figures into forms and planes and how to build up basic light and color settings for them. Alongside your basic anatomy and planes crash-course we will also take a short trip into environment painting, teaching you all the essentials.

Our last assignment is to design and create a painting of our own.

In addition, to Absolute Beginners (AB) students enrolled in this course will also have access to Anne's Mastering Animals (MA) course content. Please tell your instructor by week 1 if you want to do AB or MA class content.

"Let me just say I would never have imagined I'd come even close to painting a reasonably accurate human figure or let alone a full coloured portrait and even landscape in 8 weeks! Anne has given me a gift that I truly value"

-Azam Idris, student, May 2012

"The learning process Anne makes you goes through felt so natural that it wasn't overwhelming at all, it was more exiting to see that you made that!"

-Paula Bascunan, May 2012
