This workshop is divided into three general areas.
* Three weeks will be devoted to painting the human head and features.
* Three weeks will be devoted to painting the entire figure.
* Two weeks for the final masterpiece.
Week One Introduction of material and students showing individual samples of their work. Sketching and drawing a male and female face from photographic reference will be the focus of this week. Two main techniques will be explored. Digital direct painting and digital glazing will each be used for one of the faces. The advantages and disadvantages will be discussed.
Week Two Painting the male and female face with value. During this week we will paint one of the faces using only value. No color will be used. This face will be taken to 90% finish during the week. The second face will be painted to 50% finish using a limited palette of color in a more direct manner with attention to both detail and value. The differences between painting a male face and female face will be discussed.
Week Three The first face will be finished using a digital glazing technique. The second face will be finished using a continuation of the starting, direct painting method.
Week Four Sketching and drawing a male and female figure from photographic reference will be the focus of this week. The two main techniques used in the head paintings will be used again. Skin color, complexion, racial, and gender differences will be discussed. Drawing the figures will be the focus of this week.
Week Five Painting the male and female figure with value. During this week we will paint one of the figures using only value. No color will be used. This figure will be taken to 90% finish during the week. The second figure will be painted to 50% finish using a limited palette of color in a more direct manner with attention to both detail and value. The differences between painting a male figure and female figure will be discussed. The influence of background color will be discussed.
Week Six The first figure will be finished using a digital glazing technique. The second figure will be finished using a continuation of the direct painting method.
Week Seven and Eight Painting a figure masterpiece. Workshop participants will either provide their own reference or reference will be provided. Students will paint a large resolution figure painting using the technique of their choice.

Students need to be familiar with using a bulletin board system (such as CGTalk.com).
Software and Hardware Requirements
Students must have access to a machine (PC or Mac) with the necessary hardware to run Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop.
A Wacom Tablet and scanner are required.
A web browser and internet connection is required. A broadband connection is mandatory as some of the lessons will be in the form of videos for students to download.
