Cesar Luis Dacol’s has worked in the film industry for nearly 20 years, having started his career in the makeup effects industry and transitioning to computers effects in the mid 90's.With a background in anatomy and traditional sculpting, he quickly adapted to the 3D world of computers. For the past 5 years Cesar has worked primarily as Lead and Modeling Supervisor, contributing to many feature films such as 300, Barnyard and Fantastic Four.

He is presently a Modeling Supervisor at Image Metrics where he oversees the digital character creations, facial animation blend shapes for various clients and feature film productions. He is currently involved in the production of Foodfight! (animation - release date 2008).

Between 2005 and 2007, Cesar was the Modeling Supervisor at Meteor Studios where he oversaw the digital character and environment creations for feature film productions as well as working with production managers in bidding, scheduling and crew selection. While at Meteor Studios, Cesar was the Modeling supervisor for the feature film 300.

In 2005, Cesar worked briefly at Omation where he was responsible for the creation of digital sets and assets for the animation film Barnyard. In this year, he was also responsible for creating the high resolution digital vehicles in the blockbuster film Fantastic Four.

Between 2003 and 2004, Cesar worked as Character Modeler and Technical Director at CORE Film Productions for The Wild. He was responsible for the creation of digital character sculptures, skeletal, muscle, rigging of digital characters, and the maintenance of characters through final process.

As well as having a vast film credit list (too big to list here), Cesar’s credits also extend to gaming, where he worked as the character modeler in Circus Maximus: Chariot Wars (2002), Encore, Inc. for Playstation 2 and Xbox.

Between October 2004 and January 2005, Cesar was appointed Adjunct Professor in Advanced Polygonal Character Modeling at Sheridan College where he enjoyed sharing his years of modeling experience to teach character modeling for the Computer Animation Program . He is also a beta team member for Pixologic’s ZBrush.

ZBrush - Sculpting Digital Characters
with Cesar Dacol Jr

Course starts 25 August 2008.

In this new online CGWorkshop, Modeling Supervisor and Technical Director Cesar Dacol Jr., will drive and mentor students in the fundamentals of ZBrush, the digital sculpting tool, as they pertain to creating digital characters. By exploring and creating characters in ZBrush, students’ skills with be strengthened and honed in preparation for production. Students will be studying the digital sculpting paradigms as well as the texturing and retopology within ZBrush 3.1. As there will be heavy emphasis on anatomy and structure, students are required to have a working knowledge of ZBrush. This is not a class for beginners into ZBrush. Students will also need to have Photoshop or Corel Painter and a 3D application of their choosing.

Modeling Supervisor and Technical Director Cesar Dacol Jr. is returning to repeat ZBrush - Sculpting Digital Characters. Students will learn the professional modeling techniques as they pertain to creating digital characters. By exploring and creating characters, students’ skills will be strengthened and honed in preparation for production. Students will be studying the digital sculpting paradigms as well as the texturing and retopology within ZBrush 3.1. As there will be heavy emphasis on anatomy and structure, students are required to have a working knowledge of ZBrush. This is not a class for beginners into ZBrush. Students will also need to have Photoshop or Corel Painter and a 3D application of their choosing.
